The Sessions

I haven't seen this movie but the storyline inspired me to read the story of Mark O'Brien, a disabled writer who was paralyzed from neck to his legs and survived on an iron lung. Despite his disability, he was always curious about his sensual feeling and decided to look for his first intimacy encounter at the age of 38. It took great courage to make the first step. For Mark, it was more difficult as he needed to ask his helpers and friends to make all the arrangement. Though he was nervous, he had a strong mind to make it happen. It was a life-changing experience for him, but his disability was so severe that he could hardly find an encounter with someone whom he liked. It was an eye-opening trip when reading his story written by himself. He exposed his feeling in front of everybody with no fear. His body was so fragile and his mind was strong, yet vulnerable emotionally. After all, disabled people are human beings. They have needs and emotions like us. They need accessibility as well as psychological support.
