Year of the Ox

The finanical tsunami has really affected many people. I started to learn from my friends who got less business, less job or their employment contract being restructured with less benefits.

I hate to hear what one of my friends keeps talking about how bad a year she had. I think she should think twice how lucky she is having a job, still having some friends and does not lose so much money in the stock market like what other people did.

It's the time for us to reflect what we have and what things we don't need. Life and living can be still good if we live simply with wanting a lot more. Definitely it's a lesson for us to learn to save to weather the bad times and how to think positively and live happy in another way.

There was a very good TV programme talking about a few happy families. They are not rich. The dad of one family is going to be blind and couldn't work too. The floor of their apartment is discolored and it's not a big apartment at all. But the couple together with their two daughters just find their way to be happy. The newspapers also talked about some encouraging stories like how a wealthy man went through a "roller-coaster" in his life. He lost his printing company, yachts and houses and became a cleaner. After years of fighting through poorness, he got a chance to be a foreman in a factory.

Our will might be a bit as strong as that of our ancestors but I hope everyone can sail through the tsunami and think twice about what they have at present. We, as Chinese, always say greetings to each other during Chinese New Year. Many of us realised that we could use our famous greeting "gain without giving efforts" this year. 2009 is the year of the Ox. It is a sign to alert us to work hard before we can gain anything. And the most important of all, we shouldn't think the things we have is what we deserved. We should regard that it's our luck and efforts to help us get all these.
