How to make a decision

I had a chat with a friend of mine over dinner today. We touched on topics like our love, our life and our work. She's pregnant when dating somebody and now has a 1.5-month-old daughter. She quit her job to look after her daughter for almost half a year and is now thinking about finding a full time job again.

I see more and more friends quitting jobs and look after their kids full time. I feel that it's a big commitment to give up your jobs and spend 24/7 on your kids. But most of them plan to devote their life to parenting their kids and seem to enjoy this lifetime job very much.

"How can you make the decision to give birth your daughter knowing that you're not gonna married? And how can you have the courage to give up your job at the same time?" I asked my friend.

She explained, "I learn from the law school that I should write down what it's like if I give birth the baby and what it's like if I didn't. Then I can find out which option I really want and which option will make me regret."

To her, a daughter is a blessing and is a gift given from god, but she realises that she can always find another job anytime. The job she can find may not be as good as her last one but at least she won't regret for not having a child.

Another common question for a Chinese mom is whether you want your daughter to study in a local school or an international school. She also answers it in a logical and reasonable way, saying that relationship is more important, therefore she wants her daughter to study in Hong Kong in all time.

She feels that finding another half is not easy and she always puts love in priority. If her daughter goes for an international school, that means she may have to go with her abroad studying one day that will jeopardize her relationship with her partner.

Does it make sense to you? Am I too stubborn to stay on my job and not taking a risk?

I should have a second thought about it. But the happiest thing is my friend met another friend in the restaurant that gives her an opportunity to work.

So, we shouldn't think too much about our life sometimes? After all, we just need faith to believe things should be worked out one day!
