How doctors learn from getting better
The TV episode "House" reveiled that doctors are not a hero but they always have to say "I don't know" about a lot of strange symptoms.
Love reading a book called "Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science". Whether you're a doctor, it's a good read to learn about how doctors learning to become better through open discussion of medical cases, how outcomes can be different when patients are treated by different doctors at different time.
I was most impressed by a chapter outlining a story of an orthopaedic doctor who went all wrong when he saw more patients and earned more money. This sort of discussion might still be a taboo nowadays and it's not easy for a professional to admit mistakes.
By reading this book, I hope we all review what we've done day after day and see how we can improve our work by admitting our shortfall.
